What’s truly remarkable about Nyonya is its profound ability to deliver comfort in every bite. It's evident in reviews from patrons like Sharis C., who praised the sumptuous Nasi Lemak, calling it "moist and flavorful," calling them back for more. Meanwhile, Josh L. emphasized the "borderline Cheesecake Factory style menu," highlighting the flavorful Roti Canai and the wok-hei-rich Chow Kueh Teow that embodies the essential characteristics of authentic street food.

It's not the most authentic but it tastes good! The chicken in my nasi lemak was moist and everything was flavorful. Would come back again

Nyonya is cash only. You don't need me to tell you because it is written on the door, the hostess will confirm with you, and then it will also be written on the cover of the menu so if you can't figure it out, I don't think anyone can help you. And like most places in NYC that have resisted credit card processing fees deep into the 21st century, Nyonya is where the good food is. The space is nice too and big enough that you don't feel like you're sitting in your neighbor's lap. We were quickly sat and given just enough time to peruse the borderline Cheesecake Factory style menu. We settled on the Roti Canai, Chow Kueh Teow, and a chicken Masak Lemak with a side of coconut rice. The Roti was thin and crispy with a very flavorful chicken curry for dipping. The Chow Kueh Teow had the kind of wok hay that you are looking for, trust me. The Masak Lemak was a saucy, ginger packed delight. The portions are big--between the two of us, there was enough for a solid lunch (for one) or snack (for two) the next day. And it still hit then. Come hungry. Bring cash.

CASH ONLY. Very reasonably priced comfort asian food. My friend and I walked in on a random Saturday at 6:30 and were able to get seated immediately. We ordered the Hainan chicken, Salted fish with eggplant, and chicken satay. All the food was pretty good and hit home, although I wouldn't say there was anything too mind blowing about any of them. The Hainan chicken was pretty classic and simple, and I really liked the dipping sauce on the side. For the salted fish, it is quite literally very salty fish, which I guess I should have expected from the name but was a little saltier than I would have liked. The eggplants were good though. I really enjoyed the chicken satay, the sauce was a little peanuty but not overwhelming. Overall I thought the flavors for everything were pretty good, and $30 a person in new york to cover 3 items is unheard of! Definitely will be coming back when I'm craving asian comfort food.

Roti was wafer thin and ostentatiously tall; the skewers were excellent, with the delightful peanut sauce to boot. The egg was a bit greasy but still tasty.

Came here for dinner on a Monday night with a crew of 6. We opted to go family-style and shared a bunch of dishes. Having lived in Singapore, I definitely miss Singaporean and Malaysian food and was excited to get some of my old favs. However, for the most part the food didn't live up to my hopes. We got: - Hainanese Chicken Rice: honestly just ok. It could have been more tender, juicy, and flavorful. The chili sauce was also watery and they didn't give enough for half a chicken. - Char kway teow: the noodles they used weren't the standard ones (at least that I was used to in Singapore) and it was missing wok hei. - Chinese watercress: solid, but I don't think this dish ever really stands out. - Beef rendang: this was one dish I would go back for. The rendang was flavorful and beef tender. The servers were really nice and the restaurant is very large, which is nice as you shouldn't have to wait for a table. Note: they are cash only.

The Nyonya restaurant, which is close to Chinatown, offers a fascinating trip through the core of Peranakan cuisine. The mood emanated a charming blend of Malay and Chinese elements from the time I walked in, with traditional furnishings and subdued lighting providing a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. I was impressed by the wide variety of Nyonya foods available as I browsed the menu. Lesser-known delicacies like itek tim and sambal udang shared the stage with classics like laksa lemak, ayam pongteh, and beef rendang. An true flavor of Nyonya heritage was guaranteed by each dish. I placed an order for Shrimp prepared Malaysian-style with lady fingers. The cuisine exceeded my expectations upon arrival. The tastes were vivid and nuanced, exhibiting the deliberate balancing of aromatics and spices that characterize Nyonya cooking. With its succulent chicken and prawn bits and a thick coconut broth, the laksa lemak was really good. The ayam pongteh, a substantial stew of chicken and potatoes cooked in a fragrant soybean sauce, was equally impressive. The attentive service enhanced the entire experience during the lunch. The staff made me feel more appreciative of the gastronomic adventure I was on because they were ready to make recommendations and knew a lot about the menu. The ingredients and the expert preparation were of exceptional quality, even though the costs were reasonable. Every mouthful demonstrated the restaurant's dedication to provide the best Nyonya cuisine. The Nyonya restaurant was an excellent experience for me. Every element of the dining experience, from the varied menu to the faultless service, was thoughtfully chosen to highlight the rich tapestry of Peranakan delicacies. I was quite happy when I left and couldn't wait to try more food. This restaurant accepts cash only, but thankfully there is an ATM near the front entrance for customers convenience.

Nyonya is one of the most popular go to restaurant for Malaysian. Simple, cash-only, unassuming place to get your hainanese chicken, and roti canai fix. The food always delivers each time. Can't go wrong with hainanese chicken (if you're a fan. I'm not), roti canai, and an order of a vegetable dish. Ambience is dark wood furniture. Simple and clean with fast service. 8/10 I do recommend

This was THE PERFECT place for a rainy day lunch. What impressed me the most was that for the food we received, our total bill came out to less than $30! Boyfie and I shared a Hainanese half chicken, chicken broth rice, and ginger duck noodle. I don't know what their secret was to making all the meats so tender, but I felt like I was in food heaven. Probably one of the most memorable Hainanese chicken dishes I've had in a while. The ginger duck noodle soup was also very fragrant and flavorful. Usually, duck can be a fatty meat, but that didn't feel like the case at Nyonya (a good thing!) Cannot recommend this place enough. It's safe to say that I'll be back here during my next NYC trip.
